Initial D World - Discussion Board / Forums > Initial D Arcade Stage > ID 8 tournament at Round 1 San Jose?

Posted by: Sunny Nov 10 2015, 11:02 AM
This is for the people who play at or can (or willing to) make it to the Round 1 in San Jose.

We've had our Initial D 8 machines for a while now and was wondering if people would be interested in a small tournament (nothing serious) for ID 8.

I'm willing to look into it more only if i knew a good amount of people would be also interested. That being said that also means I'd be the one to host it. (unless others want to help too)

So what do you guys think? Let me know if you're interested, if I think we have enough, then id come out with a rule set we can all work with and a potential date for the tourney.

Again its nothing serious, just friendly competition and a reason to get all together as ID players smile.gif

No, you suck derp.gif

Posted by: Streamline Nov 10 2015, 06:05 PM
I was looking into this myself. I personally wish competitive racing was as big as it was with the earlier IDAS machines. I would love to participate, Sunny.

Seeing this makes me happy that people still play id8 in the bay area! I live in San Francisco and I was wondering if there is any machines in the city or only in san jo?

As far as norcal goes, only in San Jose for now. :T

round 1 san jose has cards?

Posted by: Streamline Nov 13 2015, 07:27 PM
Not sure if it still has cards. I have several friends that play, Sunny, but none at our level of skill, hahah... IDAS8 gets expensive, they can't really practice.

Posted by: tehfogo Nov 13 2015, 07:40 PM
I haven't played Initial D competitively since Version 3 back in the day.

I'd probably leave it to you hardcore players, I'm still trying to full tune my AE86 whenever I'm not jamming out on the Bemani games at Round 1.

You should host one , ill be interested in joining if this happens.

Posted by: Sunny Nov 14 2015, 12:55 AM
It should have cards honestly, but if you want one i actually have one extra that i dont even use. I found it one day on the floor, has a black prius on it.

This saturday im going to ask around if people would be willing, right now i can imagine like at least 5 joining forsure. Idk how many people i should aim for. 10? maybe less? more? What do you guys think?10 sounds like it can work.

After saturday Ill probably come out with the rule set and a signup page for the tourney if it goes well. The tourney will either be hosted on a Saturday or Sunday, and within the month.

8 will be a good number for a double elimination bracket, and when interest grows...16 happy.gif

Either 2/3 races per match with all random course or RPS for first pick, other racer 2nd pick, random third course is my suggestion.

Wish I can attend ermm2.gif

If anything , I could maybe advertise it on paper if you want , just to get people interested in joining. Just tell me the date and time when your planning to host it .

I've decided that it'll be on December 13th, people are still dealing with school and I wanna make sure everyone see the upcoming event. In a day or two ill post the sign up page along with the rules and probably come out with the time as well. Go ahead spread the word! Itll help. Just refer them to the forum page if you can or tell them the details until the sign ups are out

Posted by: Sunny Nov 16 2015, 11:15 PM
Check it out! Read the description before you sign up. http://challonge.com/dorifuto_id8

Sign up page: http://challonge.com/tournaments/signup/HifKGaOs5Y (You will need a challonge account to sign up online)

Description for lazy people:
DORIFUTO! A small NorCal Initial D 8 tournament at Round 1 in San Jose. (December 13th) (Double Elimination)

The time will be announced 2 weeks before the actual day, but will start around 6-7. (Always arrive early to check in and practice to shake off your first game rust!)

As for entry fee for now there is going to be none. This tournament is entirely free and available to everybody, but be ready to buy your own credits to participate. I am not going to be paying for people's games during the event.

Important: If other people (non-participants) want to play, then let them play. We shouldn't be jerks and hog the machine, ID8 is for everybody. If we must we will just wait out the machines as usual.

To signup online you must have a challonge account, signing up ahead of time will make sure you're not put in a wait list if more people come than anticipated. If not, then you can either leave a post on the forum of your entry, "Hey I'm willing to enter, enter me as [racer name]", OR just come the day of the event and sign up in person.

- BOOST will always be on.
- Double Elimination
- Each player will get to BAN one map, the map played will be chosen at random (through another method rather than the random option on the machine) according to the bans.
- Every match will only have one round except for Semifinals and Finals.
- Semifinals and finals will be best two out of three, each player again, bans one map and the map played is chosen at random. Loser of that round has the option to ban an additional map before the map is chosen at random for the next round. ALSO the same map will not be played twice.
- You can enter in as any spec you want, thought obviously you want to be full spec.
- Player can use as many cars as they want to, but the car has to be chosen BEFORE the map pick for that round. For Semifinals and finals user must chose a car for whole 2/3 set)

The tournament will happen if I can get at least 8 people to sign up. The cap will be at 14 (I doubt we'll get that much anyways) Though if we break that limit, then i'll consider raising it.

Also important: When you enter, you acknowledge that some machines have defects on them and are willing to play on them regardless. You can ask your opponent to switch machines before the match if you dont like what your assigned with, but if he refuses, tough luck. (Switching only within the same machine set, a1<->a2 , b1 <->b2.

This is a great opportunity for a lot of initial D racers to get together and hangout and play the game, so just have fun.

If you have any questions you can just go on the forums and ask there. I check frequently.

If this goes well, I might host another one.

Posted by: sizzle Nov 30 2015, 06:56 PM
What is the prize for winning this tournament? Most tournament have some sort of prize.

Posted by: Sunny Dec 1 2015, 11:49 PM
Since there is no entrance fees to really add a pot too, ill probably be giving out a small prize. Ill update this on the tournament page a week before on what the prize will exactly be. ( Let's just say youll be able to spend it ) ( And no not credits lol )

Posted by: sizzle Dec 5 2015, 03:39 PM
I saw many new players today but many never seen before.
IMOTO, TRAN, JIN, and others.
Who are the fastest racers or top players at round 1?

Posted by: Sunny Dec 6 2015, 09:39 PM
So the prizes will be on the Challonge page itself but ill be putting them on here as well cause why not

1st : $30 cash
2nd: 10$ Starbucks Giftcard
3rd: A pat on the back and a mystery prize ooo nice.

Sorry if the prizes weren't at big as you thought, this is coming out of my pocket again.

@sizzle

The fastest racers Im honestly not sure, overall times speaking, there's a guy that goes by the name(s) "Ned9-12" (ned09) (ned10) etc. I think hes pretty good out of everyone else. Besides that everyone has their own courses they like to play. Maybe we can find out next week haha. Also dashing (------) is pretty fast, he fun to race.

And to everyone, again, this is just a small thing for all of us initial d players. I've helped host tournaments back in the past for smash bros, but this is kind of different since we have a fixed amount of set ups (the machines) and not much venue control (if any at all). Don't expect a guy with a mic in hand shouting out matches with a large projector overhead or anything haha. Ill be recording the matches at the same time yelling out the next match and keeping track of the brackets. Simple. If this goes well i'll consider hosting more in the future (maybe with a buy-in fee so we can have a pot to win). Any other questions go ahead send me a PM or make a post here or on the challonge page. With that being said, just have fun and see you all Sunday!

Look like all 14 slots are registered now.
So many new people really(not seen in previous versions). Look like there will be a good turnout.
Could somebody tell round 1 workers to help adjust the wheels so it will be fair for all racers?
I think one of the wheel is not center so its a bit slighted when turning.

Posted by: Sunny Dec 9 2015, 08:15 PM
@Sizzle Sadly you can only use them if you have online access. Ive unlocked my auras and wings already but it wont show sad.gif Also yeah I know the steering wheel is misaligned on the far right machine. We tried to get them to fix it but it never could be fully fixed. Id say just practice with the misalignment. Sorry! Also ill ask them if they can raise the volume on the machines since they've gotten pretty quiet for some reason.

Ill probably just go to R1 fri-sun to make sure everything is fine. Plus I havent played in a while since school is being a huge pain so i need to scrape off rust haha

@stream Yes. The time that is posted on the challonge site. 6pm. Till when I have no idea. You can start checking in a 4pm. Never too late to sign up as well so bring a friend!

A flyer behind initial d seat or on top of game is enough to let people know about it.

@Light Haha yeah, see you Sunday!

@Toji Sorry if we didn't put much advertising for the tournament, I do want people to know about the tourney but at the same time it was just a small thing to begin with. It was supposed to be a low profile tournament where I didn't really need permission from the managers to host something like this. That is why I made it free to try and stay away from as much conflict as possible. We had flyers earlier but I was scared that R1 would think im taking money from people so I decided they weren't appropriate at the time. I just talked to a manager there and they said it should be fine. They also mentioned that their planning to host a tournament themselves (hosted BY Round 1) and hopefully they can take notes off us.

I WILL SHUFFLE THE SEEDS AT 12 TONIGHT** Bracket can still change due to more players coming in, besides that, get ready for a general idea where youll be.

Posted by: Dustki Dec 12 2015, 12:33 AM

Where the updated bracket?

Posted by: Sunny Dec 12 2015, 01:14 AM
Updated as of now. Sorry got extremely busy during the night.

@Sizzle, thats true but then the message of the time switch might get to everyone, but if everyone shows up before 6pm cutoff then ill go ahead and get it headstarted.

Hey guys! Thanks for coming down(we had 15 show up dang!). I had lots of fun hosting and playing with you guys. I learned a lot and how things could of been more efficient as a host. Racing-wise i'm glad everyone could hang out and have fun. I heard some were confused with the est time I apologize thats my mistake. I assumed everyone would be from norcal so time wouldnt have been an issue (sorry)

Could not take pictures of winner as I got pulled on the side by the Amusement manager. Some things were said, regardless, it was barely negative and way positive. The AM said that she willing to help with the tourney giving us way more options: for example, free games during tourney, special area for the tournament so people passing by don't interrupt, STAFF ASSISTANCE (omg yes), and actual advertising by Round 1 on the machines, store, and website, and also actual entrance fee so we feel like were playing for something! (and not my wallet qq jk)

I plan to propose another idea (to round1) next month, in which the next tournament will probably (not for sure) be around February ish.

Ill have the videos up ASAP

Welp again, thanks for coming down! Until next time. smile.gif

I had a lot of fun meeting everyone at the tournament (wish it was a lot closer to home)! If the next tournament can be on a Saturday that will be awesome since I won't have to finish the tournament and go drive 6 hours right after that without resting haha.

If you guys ever come down to Socal make sure to hit me up and let me know and I can try my best to meet up with you guys!

There it is, Idk why the max quality is 360 sorry.

A lot of the videos were unusuable due to high exposure, and also I ran out of batteries for the mid rounds. AND ALSO the audio was extremely bad, lots of chatter, and loud that i had to lower them 60%, to fill in the gap I just put random eurobeat. Towards the end of the clips the backround noise wasnt as bad so i left it.

Couldnt get all the players, i apologize.

Posted by: Dustki Dec 14 2015, 10:24 PM
If we can get the next tournament on a Saturday around the same time that will be really helpful for me. So I won't be falling to sleep like 5 times on the way back to Socal hahaha.

Posted by: Streamline Jan 16 2016, 03:47 PM
No, only VTA buses. There's about 8 or 9 bus lines that run to that specific mall.

Posted by: Tummywub Jan 16 2016, 05:53 PM
Jealous that you guys still have a scene up there.

Would you know if any of the machines has any licenses left?

I believe they should. Initial D 8 was the second highest income game in the whole arcade, so they should keep it maintained. Even if they didn't, the tournament should have shown them that there's reason to.

I've been in and out of round one for 2 weeks already. Been hoping to make a card but they've been out of stock for some reason. Or it hasn't been working. Does anyone have a blank for sale? Located in San Jose area. Thanks!

I think we still have cards down in socal. If you guys host another tournament I'm willing to make cards and bring them to you guys when I go.

You guys talking about the Round 1 at Industry right? I don't know the other locations in SoCal with the IDAS8 machines.

Posted by: Sunny Feb 24 2016, 12:37 PM
Hey guys, been a while since I looked back on this, I didn't even know people would even still pay attention to this topic haha. Ever since the tournament I haven't honestly played a lot of Initial D if not ANY. I've just been doing school and other things that interest me at the moment. I still like Initial D a lot, i just felt burned out i guess.

Anyways, I had a few people already asking me besides the forum posts if there is going to be another tournament soon. I honestly didn't have any plans to host another tournament soon, but if everyone's down, then how can I resist? If I do, it'll probably be a month or two from now.

So somethings I need to know from you guys,

1) Schedule-wise, when are the best times to host these? (for you guys) (Month wise and day) March, April, may? Last time I had to push the date back and forth before an official date because some people were on vacation, or they had exams. Couldn't satisfy everyone so I did my best.

2) Feed back (more for the people who went to tourney), everyone said they had fun, but I know we ran into some problems along the way. Do you guys have anything to say, if say you had a problem with or maybe liked something with the first tournament?

3) Rule-set, the first rule-set was made so that it was more casual. I forced boost ON because:
a.) No one likes someone getting stomped with a 600m disadvantage, it's boring
b.) Not everyone knows every map, so this kinda (sortaaa) leveled things out.
c.) It's entertaining! You see people actually passing each other up, even some last second
business right before the finish line.
d.) Random map selection, it was really hard to get this to even go smoothly. It sucked having
so people only play one round until semi finals where it became (best two out of three).
Boost helped with the unlucky map picks for certain people. (going back to b.)
Did you guys like these rules? Any ideas to change it up? Let me know please.

I just need to know these things before I go ahead and contact the arcade manager for an idea to host another tournament , with the input I hope I can polish some issues we had previously so things can be more enjoyable and run smoother.

Hopefully with the assistance of Round 1, if not hosted by Round 1, it can be a more exciting experience for all of us! (And I can focus on playing smile.gif !)

Sorry for lack of updates. Finishing up school while being caught up with work.

So anyways, I sent the Amusement-Manager an email expressing my interest to work with them for an official ID tournament. They replied back showing eagerness for such an event and requested that I send them a proposal. I made a proposal with the rule set but couldn't answer some of the questions they asked me due to lack of information.( eg. Can we make the games free, can we move the machines, how much time to host the entire event ). With me asking those questions for them to answer, they have yet to reply. It's been about 8-9 days now without a response. If anything, ill contact the head manager, but if I get no response, then I won't go any further bothering them.

I really do want to host (or help host) another Initial D tournament. It's fun playing with everyone, but if they don't even bother replying then I wont either. If anything, if you already haven't heard, there's also going to be a tournament in Sunnyvale Golfland with the help of AXEL. I'm looking forward to this event. For now i'll just be on stand-by for R1, but it's good knowing there is another tournament in the works.

I'll try to keep you guys updated smile.gif

Sup round 1 San Jose initial d 8 drivers! Just got done at round 1 and to my great disappointment they ran out of cards. I would like to ask everyone if they know where I can purchase a card? or if anyone is selling a card? or if round 1 ever re-fills the machine with cards? Thanks! I super want to play but dont want to spend money if im not tuning a car. Kind of a waste. Yup. and I'd be super up on attending tournaments and or having session once or twice a month. I'm from the concord area (there getting a round 1 soon!) But im cool with driving to san jose once or twice a month to race and practice with everyone.

Sunnyvale Golfland had cards about 4 days ago I heard. Try there. Round 1 also restocks cards time to time. Come play with us! We love new players smile.gif . I should give Concord a visit when it opens! If you ever wanna play with us, just let us know ahead of time haha.

Dude! thats whatsup! Well me and a group of my friends/cousins (none intial d players) are planning to go on Saturday, july 2nd. We plan to arrive at around maybe 1 or 2 pm. My name is Ace btw. Looking forward to meeting and racing with everyone. Hopefully they have cards at sunnyvale golf land. Peace.

Posted by: Sunny Jun 13 2016, 10:21 PM
Forsure! See you there!

Posted by: Spartan_Ace Jun 15 2016, 04:45 PM
Today I went to Sunnyvale golf land. To my luck it was unlimited arcade mania or whatever they call it. So that means they take the cards out. I was desperate for a card so I asked management if they can just pull a few strings and put a few cards in so I can purchase 3. I concvinced them! They put the cards in! While I was purchasing the cards an error showed up and I ended up not getting them! Shit outta luck. Hopefully they still have cards the next time I go. These cards are selling like hot cakes! Sucks. I might try and head there Friday after work.

edit: I'll actually be at golfland monday morning right when they open. Hopefully no arcade mania so I can purchase my cards and be done with that.

Posted by: Spartan_Ace Jun 18 2016, 09:26 PM
Got my cards today! See yall at tournament's!
