I'm gonna try using the Imageshack Toolbar to post these as it supposedly can do it automatically. We'll see how that goes. Last time I used the Imageshack Toolbar it had a nasty habit of crashing my browser. Maybe with the new version of Firefox it won't. It'd be nice. Anyway, here's the pics of the 280Z as it sits now. |

Full-on restorations are incredibly costly. |

Silence you!!! But thanks for looking out for me, if you spot some lemme know! Tessou: No worries man, I had no idea you had someone in the market. Thanks anyway, dude! Miles: Wait until August. The car just hit Craigslist and HybridZ last night. If it's not sold by August you can just drop a 50% deposit instead. Hopefully you don't take offense to this, but I'd much rather sell to someone local who can afford to pay me up front than someone on the other side of the country who can't. Now then, time to update for 7/22. Here goes! Today I decided to complete my 'repair' of the bad seat bottoms on the seats in my 240Z. Or rather, the driver's seat. The passenger seat honestly isn't that bad--it has two minor bad seams and one cut. It can actually be patched up, I think. The driver's seat, however, was majorly screwed and would need replacing. I said to myself, "I don't need to replace this, I have the magic tool that fixes everything!" So, using that does-everything fix, I fixed me up a driver's seat bottom! Check it out!! Hell yeah. Duct tape fixes EVERYTHING. No exceptions. Once I'd finished with the seats I started working under the dash. First thing to go was the ARA A/C controller--a few quick snips and it was out. The panel itself is still in good shape so I can probably sell it to someone who wants a "vintage-looking" A/C controller. Then came cleaning up all the random wiring. That was fun--I found some very interesting wires. One was grounded to a bolt that holds the dash to the car. One wire went all the way from the passenger footwell to a grommet behind the pedalbox out across the engine bay to a bolt near the passenger-side fender well. Why the hell they needed to run a wire that far to get a ground is beyond me, and the wire was pretty screwed up anyway. Not anymore--it's all gone. Some of the wires (especially the weird aluminum 'pipe' thing going into the A/C controller) weren't possible to remove without removing the dash trim, so I left them alone for now until I can properly take apart the trim and start redoing things. As I was pulling wires, though, I found a cable that closely resembled one on my 280Z--it was a black cable with an inline fuse. Popping it open, I found that the fuse was blown. Could this be why my fan blower wasn't working!? Gleefully I grabbed a good 20A fuse and popped it in, started the car, hit the blower... and nothing. I turned the car back off and inspected the fuse. It melted. It didn't just blow, it melted into three pieces. Yikes. I'm really gonna have to inspect that stuff when I get the dash trim out. As for the instrument light rheostat, it wasn't connected to anything. Its wires were just dangling doing nothing. It looked like someone tried to bypass it but obviously that didn't work out too well. There are a bunch of wires up under the driver's side of the dash that aren't plugged into anything. Sigh. It's like, every single car I get is an electrical nightmare no matter how simple they seem. Ah well--like every other car I've had, this is just another one I'm gonna fix up. Dash trim is kinda a pain in the ass to work with, so I might hold off until Sunday or Monday before working on it. Probably Monday since I have a feeling I'll be needing to make some runs to MSA for a few things when I do it. I also did some "guess-pricing" of how much it would cost to do repairs on the 240Z my way--that is, just pulling the body straight and painting it. From reading posts from other people who had similar work done, I'm expecting the cost to be somewhere in the $4000-$5000 range. That's still steep, but it's a lot better than $25000--and it's within my budget assuming the turbo motor is all set by about October. Just means I have to drive it around damaged for a little longer. Not a big deal. I will ask around on HybridZ and see if anybody has recommendations for local shops who can do this sort of work. May as well have all my cards in order so I can just go for it when the time comes. Now then, on to the 280Z. Or rather, I'd like to take a side moment and rant a little bit about one thing that bugs me about Craigslist. I had an e-mail on my way to work from someone who claimed to have interest in my car. When I read it, immediately I had red flags shoot up that something was off. Firstly, it didn't mention what car it was nor was it using Craigslist's premade Subject line. 'What if I listed multiple cars'? I thought. It also provided an e-mail address in the message to reply to if I still had the car. That seemed odd too--wouldn't I just reply to the message? Finally, they asked for the mileage and if the car had any issues. I provided the HybridZ link with all that information in the ad. So already I was thinking, this is fishy. I went ahead and replied to the e-mail address they gave, being careful not to put any of my personal information in the message. I basically just said, "Contact me before 3PM tomorrow if you want to see the car, and here's a link with more photos and info about the car." An e-mail instantly shot back to me. 'What the hell? Did my e-mail just bounce?' I think, checking my inbox for a MAILER-DAEMON message. Instead, I have a reply from the e-mail address I sent that earlier message to. Massive red flag--no human is that quick. Sure enough, it's a message asking me to 'confirm which ad it is' and that the robot on the other end 'has cash'. The link is obviously (well, obviously to me) fruadulent, designed to trick the dumber among us to input their Craigslist account information. What a f**king waste of my time. That shit is obnoxious. Too bad all I can do is add the addresses to my spam filter and roll my eyes. People actually fall for that crap? Really? Jesus. Anyway, that's it for today. Seeyas.

It was a while back, but there it was. He wants a Z but would need something closer to home. That would be too long of a drive.

Why yes, that is indeed delicious crack. Mountain Dew fans, if you haven't already tried it, go pick up Mountain Dew White Out. It's the most ridiculously delicious thing ever. I call it crack because for one, it's white, and for another you sip it and then when you go to drink it again...it's already empty. It's INSANE. Anyway, posting again because I totally forgot to post up this image. Photoshop by Sensation! mocking up what my car will look like with about $5000 in overnight parts from JA-PAN. Let's make this happen.
