Why the hell hasn't anybody mentioned this?

Yesterday, Rockstar released the debut trailer for GTAV, which will bring us back to San Andreas. Among the many things revealed include multiple protagonists, a ton of minigames, and lots of new vehicles.

No word yet on multiplayer, size of the game world, or much of anything about the story. Rockstar has apparently been secretly developing this ever since GTAIV released, and it looks on track for a 2012 release date.

See the debut trailer HERE

Even though I kinda enjoyed San Andreas.. I really wish Rockstar would choose a brand new location for once. It's always New York or Los Angeles.

Haven't played a GTA game since Vice City. None of the games after that one really struck my fancy. I will admit, this game looks more intriguing than IV.

Considering San Andreas was the game that (still) had the most activities to do, I think it'll be a hell of a lot more fun than GTAIV. If they think about using Motionscan (which was used in LA Noire), it'll look a lot better in cutscenes as well.

If anyone is listening to DJ Pikachu Fragger's show tonight, assuming the radio server is back up by then, I'll pass him the full version of the trailer's song to play.

I must admit, returning to San Andreas to me is doing the series a lot of justice. The original game was quite engrossing, but just lacked a refinement as the Renderware engine was being pushed to its limit.

Doesn't appear the game will be following the same "thug life" mood as previous iterations, but I'm definitely putting it on my 'things-to-buy-when-I-get-a-PS3' list. :3

It doesn't seem to follow a CJ'esque story, but definitely points more to a Nico like story. (I try to get out, and they pull me back in! rage.gif)

Reviving this thread because i'm certainly hyped about only this game, at the moment, nothing else seems interesting. And yes, 'oh great, another gta' but it's returning to San Andreas, with 3 new characters to pick. From what I saw in the trailer, I already like them, and hope it'll be more comedic from previous GTA's than in 4.

I'm particularly excited for this but I have to say, I love me some grand theft auto's (I own all of em) but atm I'm looking forward to watch dogs a bit more. I hope they add back some of the san andreas RPG elements or something to give it a little more flavor. That was my biggest problem with iv. It didn't do anything new unlike VCS, San Andreas and GTAIII. Each of those did something new with the gameplay. But I am excited to see whats in store. I can't wait to see Los Santos again. It's not like I own 2 copies of san andreas (PS2, PC) or anything. It's gunna be sick.

Everybody on the other boards seems to be comparing this to Watch Dogs for no goddamn reason other than the fact that trailers for both games released today. Watch Dogs does look great, but I'm not comparing it with GTA at all.

As for the RPG elements, R* has said that the muscle building and dating portions from San Andreas will not be returning, at least. To be fair, they've said that the latest generation games (IV, both dlc expansions to IV, and now V) are in a completely different world and have different goals. Instead of being this decked out mob boss that owns the city like in Vice City and San Andreas, they tone it down to be more realistic, with a story that feels like it could actually happen. I mean, come on. In San Andreas you were chasing a train on a dirtbike with a fat piece of shit on the back shooting at guys on top of the train. That could never, EVER happen.

I'm not talking story I'm talking things like the business managing mini-missions in VCS or the Casino and Racing Mini-Games. Things that add to the overall play experiences. The only reason I mentioned watch dogs is due to its free-roaming gameplay. I only liked GTA BOGT because of the overtopness and the fun but once it was over I felt as if there wasn't much left other then multiplayer. What I'm saying isn't the muscles building stuff rather then the extra things to do once it's over. GTAIV was guilty of it too. Pretty good game overall though.

There wasn't much to do in the older games once you completed them, either. I mean, playing with the VTOL and base jumping only goes so far.

Actually San Andreas had a crap load to do. Between beating all the SF races, Casino stuff, Horseshoes. maxing the three minimission (taxi, vigilante and ambulance) and getting the relationships up plus dating everyone, buying all the houses, firing range, horse betting and a think there was a couple others. VCS has the bajillion business locations you have to take over and the already mentioned police, doctor, taxi minigames. Chinatown wars had the whole drug dealing system which took awhile to reach the top using. GTAIV felt so empty after I beat it. All there was is getting drunk or playing pool/bowling. I'm not saying it's going to be bad. It's just the lack of extra things to do makes me kinda sad. It's the reason I keep going back to VCS and San Andreas. There is just so much to do.

Yes, and those were all part of the "go way out of the bounds of reality in the name of fun". I think players could better relate to Niko and the other GTAIV protagonists because they were realistic and weren't superpowered.

Also, you're forgetting the long hunt for all of the pigeons between all that bowling and drinking. And the stunt jumps. And the GENETICALLY SUPERIOR races with Brucie. And the multiplayer that wasn't limited to split screen.

Trevor, to me, looks like we'll be having a lot funny/chaotic missions on his side, maybe have one like on GTA:SA, a drug induced one.

YOUTUBE ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQzHzmvpWC0 )

Franklin's looks like we're back in Grove St, or some sort of new green gang, so maybe we'll do more missions with his group rather than lone wolf-ish stuff.

YOUTUBE ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxPtxnirSZQ )

Michael's trailer was spot on good. Problems at home, maybe a cheating wife, so what's he gonna do? do whatever the fuck he wants to do, with maybe the help of his son.

Overall, this looks like a very promising and very very good game from them, hopefully the DLC like on 4 will be great.

I'll be happy as long as they change the car controls. I wasn't bad with GTA4's controls, I got used to it. But who honestly thought it would be a good idea to make the car turn without the camera?

I'LL TAKE DAT PAYPA.

Apparently the music used in the trailers will be part of the game's soundtrack, either as dramatic background tracks during missions and/or on the radio stations. Finally, somebody put Radio Gaga into a game soundtrack!

EDIT: Update! A UK group managed to get some hands-on time at R* to play a demo build of the game. They wrote up a full report of the amazing time they had with it.
