Polyphony Digital boss and Gran Turismo producer Kazunori Yamauchi recently spoke with Weekly Famitsu about Gran Turismo 5 and the features he'd like to add before the video game is released in Japan this October. Among the things revealad in the interview, the ones related to PlayStation Home really caught our attention.

According to Yamauchi, there will a PlayStation Home icon on the top menu screen of the game. This will allow players to access a "Gran Turismo World" galaxy within the Home universe. Furthermore, players will also have the option to go back to the top menu screen from Home by clicking on the respective icons.

The producer also discussed the "My Page" feature of Gran Turismo 5. Every time the game starts, this page will pop up and will show different background images such as Tokyo and other cities as well as other indoors and outdoors sceneries. There will also be a Weather Forecast display with the Friends List being developed right now.

While Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will not have downloadable cars and courses, Kazunori Yamauchi shared that the full game will have a total of 40 cars and four courses with eight different layouts. Speaking of Prologue, the producer mentioned that the save data from Prologue can be carried over to Gran Turismo 5.

Furthermore, there will be normal cars and tuned cars, but players cannot tune their own cars in Prologue. Offline mode will consist of 16 cars but it may be slashed to just 12 during online mode. Chat will also be supported and players will have the option to run the game with or without this feature.

There will also be a normal mode which was based on simulation engine. The more exciting part here is the Professional mode in which Polyphony Digital based on actual car behavior and physics. Lastly, the producer shared that he wants to include B-spec mode but it is still not decided at this point.

Personally even though 40 cars doesn't seem enough, I think its enough for me because I would be focusing on only 1 car most likely.

So is this a step towards a World-wide GT Community ?

Think about it, if this is in the works, the final product may include something similar to PGR3's "walk-around "mode, where say, a driver could park his/her car under a tree or something, and hang out with friends, like a track day almost laugh.gif

PS3 is looking more and more interesting, once the price drops to a reasonable zone i may just get one

Hum... I hope so too, that would be a huge blow to PD, the GT series, and the PS3.

Yea i know what it is, i saw it on X-play, its kinda like the Sims, 3rd person, etc

If thats not it, then the one i saw and the real one must of been mixed up

What i was saying though is this might be a step towards a GT that has person to person interaction, like a GT-you, make a character sorta thing, but its all GT, not part of home or anything

Think about it though, wouldn't it be cool to walk around a virtual Tsukuba on a Track day, with your friends, etc ?

I do

Home is a free game, it's like a sim game, but it's where all PS3 players can meet up with friends, any social things you can think of.
