No alternatives though, eh? Hmmm... I heard Samsung is releasing one but it's apparently available only with 3G + Wifi (I only want Wifi) and that it is going to be subsidized by cell phone providers who support 3G at around $199 (which makes me think the device will be iPad-like in prices when purchased outright).

What alternatives? Do you want an e-book reader or a hand held semi-computer? From what I've heard from readers, the "pages" of their readers are a lot easier and more pleasant to stare for extended periods of time compared to a bright LCD. I'm not sure why you're trying to justify getting anything other than an iPad; it's pretty clear you've already made your choice. wink2.gif

Alright, I had to re-write this to get my exact point across...

I don't particularly mind the iPad, it does have what I want, but at the same time I would be using it primarily to read books, which makes the price seem just too high, $635 with taxes for 16 GB model.

Personally I wish I could find an LCD-based ebook reader with a similar touchscreen interface at a lower price...

Welcome to the world of Apple products.

Heh, what is sort of worse is that upgrading some things aren't exactly easy, such as upgrading the RAM on my Mac Mini...

Look up Eken Apad, specs are not quite up to par to the iPad, runs Goole Android, won't run you much over $200.

Doesn't look too bad, but I am wondering whether it would be better to wait for Chrome-based iPads...

You've asked for options right now, which is what I've posted. I was looking at getting one myself, but never got around to it.

True, true... Is there any word on Chrome tablets though?

One thing I sort worry about Android tablets is being unable to display Flash and potential lack of software updates.

Gentlemen of the elitist fruit, I ask your assistance.
I had a spill recently that killed my MacBook. Original warranty and AppleCare can't save me, and I'm very upset about this. I pay extra on top of the most expensive thing I've ever purchased and I still screw myself.
Anyway, judging by how I was able to use the laptop with a USB keyboard for a little while after I had taken necessary clean up measures, I assume my HDD is fine and it's just... everything else that is broken. Took it to get it looked at and they say $750 to send it in for repair, as well as $150 to have Apple suck up my original data, hold it on their server, and put it on a new HDD. This is where I get confused. How do we know if my hard drive is still any good? If I send it in for repair, will they try and replace my hard drive? If I can pay $750 and keep my harddrive, I might be happy. I'm trying to research people who can take the data I need from that harddrive so I could possibly buy an average Windows laptop and put my music, photos, movies etc on there.
Anyway, I'm short on time and may have rushed this together, but any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

This seems to be pretty relevant to what I'm dealing with. Still looking for your opinions!

My bad for not getting around to this earlier... I can only assume you already took care of this... What did you end up doing?
