This race along with the Ikeda vs Keisuke and Takumi vs the silvia guy were the best made in 5th stage so far.
Now back to the FC, although i have little to no knowledge of engine sounds , is it me or the FC seems to be Supercharged ?

So 22 chapters (well almost the end of chapter 602, short by a page or two) for episodes 09 to 10, and the manga is currently at chapter 701 to 702 this week. Pacing of manga suddenly slowing down or just temporary.

Re-cap of how much manga chapters covered in previous episodes including all the manga scenes that weren't animated.

Episode 01 to 02 (40 chapters)
Episode 03 to 04 (40 chapters)
Episode 05 to 06 (50 chapters)
Episode 07 to 08 (30 chapters)
Episode 09 to 10 (22 chapters)

Total of 182 chapters animated since 4th Stage ended at around chapter 420 something.

about 99 to 100 chapters to get caught up to (aside from the weekly releases upcoming)

A little disappointed with the song selection, I was hoping for

don't get me wrong, the songs they chose are good (minus A Perfect Hero) but I was hoping for something a little more emotional.

No. Matsumoto made a joke about adding a supercharger to the 86. Ryosuke asked him to make modifications to his FC. He never said anything about adding a supercharger to the FC.

I think you're confusing senpai and sensei.
Senpai is an honorific for one higher than another in teachings.
Remember that ryosuke is younger than both rin and kaori.

And it usually means someone who is just in a higher grade than you in school, or has simply been on a team longer. A Senior in high school would be a senpai to a sophomore. On a sports team a guy could have been on the team longer, but be no better than the younger/newer player - but he is still a senpai. They could even be in the same grade, but joined at an earlier time.

And agreed, the S2000 race was among the best, if not THE BEST, regardless of the result. I drive an S2000 and I'm proud that the only car that Takumi would've lost to (other than Bunta's) was the S2k!

Rin was three years ahead of Ryosuke in college.

Since it was only two years ago, it might have been when Ryosuke first entered medical school, but it might have been when he was still an undergraduate. We don't know.

the episodes are intense, the main reason is because the white comet is back, but I dont get the hype, is cool, is awesome, but IMO, is not the best race in 5th stage or in the initial d series so far....

in 5th stage for me until now, the best races are the miata vs trueno (what if the gt wing werent damaged?),

the supra vs rx7 ?(the pride from the supra driver was the mistake..),

mr-s vs trueno (I still dont get why on earth the mr-s lost, is just senseless...)

in the series my favorite is the ek9 spoon vs trueno (the soundtrack was amazing, I wish the race didnt end with that "luck" factor, because the ek9 driver pushed takumi a couple of times, so is like the karma working or something...

the s2k race was awesome, takumi lost here clearly...

this guy, rin, is like the fusion between shingo and nakazato, hairstyle somewhat from shingo and the crashing habit, plus the car model from nakazato (r32 skyline), I wonder if shingeno had a bad experience or a paranormal experience with a r32 skyline in his life, why the skylines are with this dark aura ever, who remember the back on the rocks when nakazato used to be someone important?


the rin vs ryosuke race makes me laugh so many times, sorry guys maybe my mind is sick..

Why did the MR-S lose? That's easy. For the same reason that Kai originally lost in his dad's SW20: the series is biased towards the lead character. Takumi can magically gain huge speed advantages and somehow not wreck his tired suspension by jumping the car around Irohazaka, and then somehow wins because of leaves on the road.

Therefore, Kai will spin simply because Shigeno wants him to. Even if the situation doesn't feasibly make it possible. Kai could have the car parked in a garage and Shigeno could make it crash into a ravine. BECAUSE.

Yes well in reality he lost because he realized how stupid street racing is and let Takumi win because he knew that eventually it wouldn't matter. He'd still be alive and Takumi would be dead in a ditch somewhere.

So in reality, while Kai lost this battle he's already won the war. Life lessons, guys.

well other than the fact that kai and his mr-s lost because takumi is the lead character and he has to win, kai spun because he backed out halfway through the corner and let off the gas (according to his char after with takumi) hence causing the weight transfer and the spin at that speed around the corner. Its not really senseless... lucky for takumi yes, but these things do happen and ive witnessed on cruises how people hesitate midway after trying to follow the lead cars in front and from behind watch them happily kick their tail out by accident due to letting off throttle or trying to brake midway lol.

Have to though none of the races in 5th stage apart from the 350z vs rx7 in the fog was really any good, they were all pretty crappy imo, havent watched 9&10 yet just waiting on subs so well have to see. Half the races either were not in depth enough or ended too quick/suddenly and barely showed the drivers struggle to win..

Takumi would have lost to the driver(God Arm/Hand), not the car(S2K).

And all he had to do was put his foot back on the throttle to regain traction. It's not THAT hard. Seriously, I flog my MR around corners all the time, and all it takes to plant the tires is to give it some gas.

Not exactly rocket science. This series takes midengine characteristics and heavily exaggerates their "weakness" to make for a somewhat more interesting race. The car doesn't spin out unless you're a complete idiot behind the wheel, and add too much throttle when the weight is being shifted (a natural reaction for amateur drivers). Pedal control is very easy to learn and transform into a natural reflex in those situations. Kai being somebody that obviously knows how to chuck an MR2 down a mountain, it's absurd to read that he spun the car completely just by letting off the throttle. Midengine cars do not react that way when the throttle is lifted during cornering. They can become upset if you act like a fool and goose it or slam on the brakes, but simply letting off on the throttle would not make the car lose control.

It's stupid. Shigeno is making up physics, and readers are accepting it as factual. If midengine was so easily dangerous, they wouldn't make road cars with that setup.

But I know what you mean. In general, yeah, Shigeno just does whatever the hell he wants for dramatic effect. That's just how Initial D is. It's his story and he'll spin an MR if he wants to. But that's okay, I'll just use my time-travelling RR to beat him to the finish. awesome.gif

Sorry to bother you, but I am need of a little help. Feeling like a bit of a tool, but I am unable to view/copy the Direct Download links on my mac. Any ideas as to how I may go about doing so? It's not critical - I am more than happy and able to wait - naturally, however, I would prefer not to.

Also, once again, thank you to all moderators etc., for all your hard work in sourcing and making available links for viewing and downloading of the episodes as made available. And, to all members, it's fantastic to see the discussions. It's great to see the enthusiasm of all toward Initial D as an anime, particularly given how long people have waited for this much overdue Fifth stage.

I believe Perry has implemented a sort of anti-leeching filter onto the files, making it so that only members who are 'contributive' to the community can actually access the direct downloads. Torrents are of course available for everyone else.

guys, remember this, in best motoring hot version, when the spirit mr-s battle the tsuchiya-san AE86. it was an epic battle, tsuchiya won by a small margin, but the car if im not mistaken, lost later against the mr-s..

the s2k beats the trueno in everything, I cant help, we cant help, the engineering, the age advantage, the technology, the s2k can take even the brz/gt86/frs any day, the s2k was that damn good...

I think that Kai did hit the brakes in the middle of the corner but you have to remember that in his head he's thinking he can't clear the corner and when people panic their instincts tell them to hit the brakes. The MRS is good but in the end the person driving it dictates how good it is. Takumi just has something wrong with him as other drivers wouldn't even think of going into the corner at his speeds.

BTW Takumi was not just beaten by God hand but his ae86 was also beaten by the s2000. The 86 is good but the s2k is by far and away BETTER than the ae86 in every category (Amuse s2000, J's racing s2000, ARVOU s2000, etc) even with the race engine (just trying to get more power out of the f20c is a damned hard thing to do)

in the anime it did look like he hit the brakes as you can see the red reflection (7:15 into ep5) but either way, we dont know how quick they were actually going around that corner, we dont know how the corner looks as it looks like they both drifted in then both braked and then kept accelerating sideways throughout it. Under normal circumstances if agree if you let off the gas or tapped the brakes and the rear kicked out its easy to regain if your quick enough to get back on the gas, however they were both drifting around a corner i doubt halfway through a corner if you were to shift the weight due to braking that youd be able to regain it quick enough and keep it drifting through the corner with the same speed. Thats assuming that they both really pushed the limits of that corner and went in at a very high speed but since we werent shown how quick they were going we cant really accurately deduce if it was possible for him to save the car from spinning out or not.

I agree though with the fact that midengines arent as dangerous as others believe though, its different driving styles to drive fast with different cars you wouldnt be driving an FR the same way youd drive an FF or AWD for that matter i just think there isnt many affordable midengine cars for those cars to be common enough for alot of people to figure out how to drive them properly.

With the amount of street racing magic that has taken hold of the show, it has dwindled into the best form of car porn to me. therefore I too wish these were available in HD.

I like these episodes mainly because the lack of chatter in between the races and the FC is back, but in terms of the shots they use, and the structure of how the whole race went down, nothing will top the god foot race...they shouldve played back on the rocks though....at least for a few seconds. ah well

fosho, I am only wondering if there happened to be a good time estimate, so I am not checking every 10 minutes when i am om the comp. I also check on my new windows phone... thats why if there was a usual like, 3 days average, i wouldnt look like a dweeb.

Deadfish had some VERY good 720p encodes. Could barely tell it was upscaled at all.

I waited to watch 7 & 8 till the subs came out. I watched them, and shortly after, the raws for 9 & 10 were released. That was a pleasant surprise, but now I'm not sure what I should do. =P

Because it is pay-per-view. While it is broadcast on an HD channel it is possible that the HD channel has more complex encryption schema in place that make getting a cap more difficult. Or, possibly, it's much cheaper to view the SD channel (I don't get Animax since I'm not in Japan so I cannot say for sure). The point is, you're getting a pay-per-view show for free and the one Chinese capper who's been releasing all the episodes only does 360p rips. Period.

Anything you see that's larger than 360p (save for episodes 1-2, which really did have HD M2TS source... and episodes 1-4, which came out on DVD and are thus 480p) is an upscale. That's all there is to it.

amen to that. never had a hint of fade anywhere between that and the N35S pads and SS lines. could've sat on the brakes all day and the only thing I would've had is slim rotors. biggrin.gif

There is only one raw. Period. I don't know about youtube or whatever since I don't do streaming, but the only way it got onto youtube is if someone uploaded it and if they uploaded it they were using the raw we had.

Now, it could be that whoever put it on youtube doesn't know jack about how to properly upload something... but the bottom line is there's only one raw. It's 640x360. That's it.

I haven't seen the subs yet but form what I noticed the Shinigami's GT-R has racing slicks (which would make sense as that would compromise to it hitting and avoiding under-steer given all it's weight/power. Pretty cool to see that smirk on Ryoseke's face when it really starts. smile.gif

1. Central-Anime is the group I think you're actually referring to, and they do episodes in pairs. If you're referring to IDW Fansubs (i.e. Perry) that's one ep at a time, translated from Chinese to English.

Huuuge thanks to the people that are subbing/encoding/posting/etc'ing the episodes! Without you, I'd probably have to learn Japanese! tongue.gif

But, just one thing though. The downloadable subbed episodes say for phone or gaming console use only. They work fine on my VLC media player. And my computer is old. Like, ancient spirits of evil kinda old.

They say for mobile use only because there's no reason you'd play them on a computer when MKVs are available. You're right on technicality, of course, but looking at it practically, it's still the same thing.

It is. Any non-listed song (that is, non-Eurobeat) is an original song composed for the OST and will be present on the eventual Sound Files album. Which means y'all fools can stop looking, you're not going to find it anywhere because no one has released it because it won't exist until Sound Files is out. rolleyes.gif

Thank you guys for the subs. Since the first stage was released I've been enjoying every bit of it thanks to you guys. Nostalgia all over again. I remember back in 03/04 when I got into the game, which brought me to the anime, I got obsessed. My wife laughed at me when she found stage 1-4 on my old hdd lol.

In the OP there is a line in the Raise Up lyrics as "Run, Secret Celebration!"

In the CA subs the episode back, its "Run, Sleepless Challenger!"

Got confused with this and just wanted to ask which is correct.. Didnt mean to nitpick but got curious

"Run, Sleepless Challenger" is the correct one. Besides that, there are a few more. The "Raise you up" should be "But you know" and it is "Let's see how fast you can do it" instead of "Let's see you come in front".

I guess the subbing team just use their very first translation in Act. 1 to save the trouble to sub the opening again. The work, after all, is tedious.

EDIT: BurningRacer beat me to it, oh well happy.gif By any chance BR, do you have the full romanji lyrics?

I have to say that I was particularly pissed at this pair of episodes. Too much of the cut-away-to-backstory with the jarring background music for my taste. When the hell did Initial D become such a typical anime? I got into it specifically because it was different, not because it would turn out to become the same as every other angsty stupid shonen anime on the shelf.

DUDE!!! Whats with all the people hating!! I found this one of the most amazing sets since the start of initial D. Stage 4 was boring routing work, this one is brining some inovations in, to view ryosuke driving again and with a plot, amazing!!! pretty much every trick is played out in terms of racing driving and they reusing, but some new things actually being thought here as to stop both cars and such.

I am liking what I am seeing so far and doesnt matter if i have to wait months to get the new ones. That battle conclusion will be epic. For me this is the best it gets from ID so far. Takumi races are boring, same old shit, always wins.

Ryosuke puts much more in-depth stuff into it. I love it!!

Because the series doesn't have the 'effort' put into it like every other stage before it had. At least the race went smoothly,as far as I know there aren't any parts cut.

Let's take that argument and apply it to any other anime that's been produced in the past couple years. How can that explain how beautiful Hyouka looked? Or how amazing Sasami-san is? Sure, there's the occasional QUALITY bits, but really, animation studios aren't really lowering their standards because they're "feeling the hurt". Budget has nothing to do with it. There are basic things about the series that are incorrect. There is a baseline standard they are expected to meet because it's Initial D. Maybe ryosukes fc has done the more and more popular ls swap lol. Although I think it'd sound WAYYY different then it does. You wanna talk about bad sounds let's talk about gran turismo people. And to my knowledge the slow in fast out tecnique in the corner would have been worse for ryosuke during the sidepress because going slow in fast out already puts a lot of sideforce on the car. It'd be a lot worse going into a corner and having someone spin you "bump and run" anyone? If you go in fast and ruin your line you'll come out of the corner slower. But you'll have cornered with more stability and less chance of the tires breaking loose. Specifically in his case the rear tires.

That's the biggest shame of this whole thing, in my opinion. Now that we have a bad adaptation, we'll never have a good one. This is why when people ask "would you rather have no Fifth Stage" I say "pretty much, yeah". Because if we didn't have this anime, someone later on down the road might have picked it up and done a better job with it. But no, now we have this and we're almost certainly stuck with it forever.

To be honest, I think the manga is partly to blame. If you compare the content in Fifth Stage compared to Fourth Stage in the manga, it's still kind of worse. So a lot of these problems were in the manga to begin with, but there are plenty of problems with the way this series has been done so it's not by any means off the hook.

By virtue of your post I could easily ask you to silence yourself because you don't know that the Devil Z and the 350Z use completely different engines and sound completely different. I mean where does it end? are we going to let it slide if Shinigami's car suddenly turned into a green S chassi mid race and back into an R32? Of course not, so why should we stand for mismatched engine sounds and interior details that were obviously there in all previous stages. They're legitimate grievances.

If Elvis, Michael Jackson, and Tupac rose from their graves (or returned from their Alien space adventure) and made an album together I'm sure most of us would buy it just for the novelty... If someone thought it sucked, don't you think there's a few fanboys that would ignore even a legitimate grievance because of what they put out in the past?

Initial D Fifth Stage is the biggest shit they ever made, stage 1,2, 3 (movi) and 4 are totally different in quality and animation, soundtrack etc.

In fifth stage the People stay there like they are stabbed from behind and cant move an inch.....

Fifth stage whas an big dissapointment for me because the old stages whas really awesome and creative made.....

i too am kind of sad of what this anime turned out to be. i am really disappointed. i mean i really wouldn't even call it an anime. animations in "motion-comics" are even better than this. the 2d animation is practically a slide show. and the CG is not really better. yeah, car models are more detailed and in HD, that's really great. but the way the car movement is animated... i mean the arcade stage games' intros are even better made. the way the keyframes are used is so amateurish... it's just linear movement with ease in and ease out. nothing more. and everyone who knows something about car physics can tell that cars are not supposed to move that way.

actually they are more realistic. you can see weight shifting during braking etc. i know that it is a cartoon and not supposed to be realistic. but that doesn't change the fact that other stages were more realistic and there was more effort put into the animation.

After watching Episode 9 and 10...does anyone else wonder if Ryosuke isn't still just as good, if not better than Takumi?

He is better than Takumi and more on the level of his father Bunta. ermm2.gif

The sharp increase in coefficient of friction coupled with the increased effect of gravity due to the incline will curb your speed damn quick no matter how fast you're going. It won't be pleasant, and getting back off the ramp requires some heavy equipment but trust me, those ramps can and do stop runaway vehicles.

Ah. Well, thanks for the info on that. I just figured it was an off ramp that was under construction. Pretty neat that they built those for that kind of purpose.

It's the same reason an international-grade race course has gravel pits filled several feet deep... it slows you down much better than grass.

It's kind of a wash between the gravel pits and plain asphalt, but asphalt is only good when your brakes work.
