Did they fix the AE86 at the end of Fourth Stage? I forget if they repaired it or not. Last I saw, they were taking it away for repairs... but it's been a while since I saw Fourth Stage's last episodes. Also, why the fuck is Takumi downshifting into second in the opening scene, then immediately upshifting into fourth?!

And yeah, the shifting in the opening scene did seem a little weird.

Good first episode. Not a ton of action, but I was already expecting that.

Gonna take a while to acclimate to the interesting new art direction.

I was to happy to wake up and see this episode on my facebook page from this forums facebook page! Luckly I had red the manag up to this point, si I knew what was going on. Also, very glad I have been studing japanese too!

This may be my current favorite intro(the first stage second into with break into the night will always be number one though). It also brought up some questions and ideas too. First, I haven't read the manga up to the takumi/shinji battle, only to the evo 7/fd battle. Anyways, I like that both Itsuki and Ikitani where featured in the intro, and in a similar fashion to takumi and keisuke. Hopefully we will see more of them, they always feel like they were the more relate-able characters in the show. Maybe some more Akina speed stars action? The white FC, is Ryosuke back in the driver seat? It appears to be heavily modified, similar to keisuke, or is this white FC just a sneak peak at a new opponent that will appear later in the series? Shinji and the coupe Trueno. Awesome to see them (I have a coupe AE86, its nice to get some attention since the hatchback body usually overshadows it in popularity). I'm going to call it and say that Shinji is the last opponent, and will beat Takumi. From seeing some of the manga panels, and reading the discussion here, I think it will happen. I think it will happen because so far Takumi has been the youngest, and his opponents have been very experienced. But like in the First stage, Takumi was able to beat experienced opponents by instinct and by ignorance(I think that was brought up in second stage?) Now the tables are turned, Takumi is now the experienced veteran, and Shinji is now the "space boy" that races on instinct, not strategy. Shinji is on his home course, like takumi was. Reminds me of the cappacino race in fourth stage, where takumi's advantage of being a lightweight car was reversed on him. I also like the ae86 coupes picture in the intro, such a throw back to the hatchback in the stage one intro. And that's all I got from the intro. I figure everyone else will have the episode dissected pretty well.

You are an idiot. First off, if you actually check the channel listings you'd see that the November 4th broadcast was only on an SD channel. There was no HD broadcast. The HD broadcast is not until the 9th, and it will be on PPV.

Second, it's clearly an upscale. Have you even been watching HD content since, I dunno, 2007? We're no longer in the era of washed-out colors and interlacing problems on scrolling text like .hack//ROOTS was in '06. Yet...imagine that! The raw on Nyaa has washed-out colors and interlacing problems! I WONDER WHY THAT IS, HMMMMMMMM...
