Character Bios:

Seth
Age: 26
Sex: Male
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 198
Hair Colour: Blonde
Eye Colour: Green

Seth is a bit of a rogue to modern society, despite having many of the trappings of someone who would fit in well. He graduated from the local state university right on time, with a high average GPA of 3.24 in the field of engineering and technical drawing. Having worked freelance for a while, he purchased quite a few nice things for himself before work began to get scarce. Turning to crime for a bit, he made some money on the side as a getaway driver, in the ilk of "The Transporter". Taking his remaining funds and turning to gambling, he spent his evenings for the better part of the year winning some and losing some, until he hit rock bottom trying to gamble his prized possession, his 2004 BMW M3 Coupe.

Othello
Age: 41
Sex: Male
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 210
Eye Colour: Brown
Hair Colour: Black

Othello previously dabbled in stock market, and after making his millions decided that being his own boss was the best business ever. Starting the car blog "Import World Wide" he began covering car shows, legal and illegal races, and tuning and import companies. Not happy with working alone, he has hired Seth along with three others young individuals to help him cover various stories all around the globe. Using the money he made in his last life, he now has the funds to turn a lucrative profit despite the cash flow going out each month to his agents. In his spare time, Othello enjoys taking his yacht around the world, and racing his extensive collection of motorcycles.

Jeb
Age: 39
Sex: Male
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 244
Eye Colour: Blue
Hair Colour: Bald as hell

Jeb went to school with Seth, and during their time together, he earned his degree as a finance and business major. Seth saw this as a valuable connection, and hired Jeb on to wrangle his cash for him as he began getting lucrative jobs. Maintaining this friendship outside of the professional realm, Jeb became a valued friend to Seth, and continues to be one. Not a man of many words, and somewhat fat and balding as accountants tend to be, he spends much of his time playing golf in his corner office.

Lena
Age: 21
Sex: Female
Height: 5'1"
Weight: 118
Eye Colour: Black
Hair Colour: Black

Enrolling at the same University that Seth attended, though several years after his graduation, Lena is slowly working her way through school, having majored in bio-tech and the sciences. Working part time at a local anime cafe, she has found a solid balance of enjoyment and hard work. After she moved north for college, she discovered that her brother had died near the border in a shoot out, and left her his car. She was overjoyed at the news of the car, but deeply saddened by the loss of her brother. She is now in her second year of university, and the pain has faded a bit, but still lingers each time she sets foot in her car. She frequently wonders who or what will become of her and her car, as they have formed a special relationship beyond that of man and machine.

Blue Metal Racing

As the bouncer grabbed him by the collar, Seth couldn’t help but smile a little bit. Or it could have been the alcohol, he really wasn’t sure.

“Look, kid, we told you! We only gamble with chips from this casino! No placing your car on the line for a bet!” And with those final words, the large, bald bouncer threw Seth against the rear door to the casino, tossing the boys keys at his chest.

“Alright, alright… Don’t have to rough me up!” Seth shouted back at the bouncer, turning himself and opening the door as he walked out in to the cool, clammy night air. He sighed with relief, reaching down to his pocket to pull a smoke out. As he lit it, he smiled once more, and thumbed the “unlock” button on his key. A few feet away, a light blue car honked its’ response to the key, bright blue headlights flashing on and illuminating the rows of gleaming cars ahead of it. Double-clicking on the start button, the pale blue BMW roared to life, the throaty straight six bellowing it’s awakening in to the empty parking lot.

That smile again. Touching the chill metal of the door handle made him shiver, and the smile grew wider. Despite his mounting bills, and slipping work, one thing always took his mind away and put him at ease. Sliding down in to the plush leather seat, he leaned back and closed his eyes. Inhaling, he took in the scents around him: His cigarette, the well-worn leather, the slightly plastic smell given off by the year-old, mint-green pine tree hanging under his mirror. And for the first time since walking in to that barren casino, his smile faded, and he was at home. Familiar motions came to him, like an Olympic swimmer warming up before a dive. His right hand touched the smoothed aluminum of the gear knob. His left hand drifted over the alcantara wheel, brushing a dark design against the lighter fibers.

Glancing out the window, he noticed that the highway was particularly dull this night, and particularly close to this specific casino. “Perfect…” he whispered to no one in particular, as he rolled down the window with a single click of the switch. Setting his elbow against the window sill, he took one last drag from his cigarette, and tossed it to the ground, watching it smolder for a moment. Rolling the window back up, he inserted his key finally, and opened his eyes.

As he watched the beautiful orange glow of the gauges illuminate the cockpit, they did a full sweep, indicating their willing readiness to drive. And drive he would, he thought, chuckling a bit to himself. With the certainty of a man who had done this many times, he eased the clutch in, pressed the shifter in to first gear with a solid clunk, and eased out of his parking spot. Blipping the throttle, the engine roared its’ agreement, and he coasted out of the parking lot and on to the highway on-ramp. Without hesitation, he pinned the accelerator to the floor, and the full force of the engine pinned him to his seat. Adrenalin surged through him as he went, and he let out a cry of pure joy, rolling the windows down as he did.

Watching the speedometer, he couldn’t help but shake a bit. The wind was rushing through his hair, and it was deafening. Is this what it feels like, he thought? To be some sort of fighter pilot when they eject going so fast? The thought faded quickly as he checked the speedometer again: one forty four, quickly closing on one fifty. What if there’s a cop, he thought… What if I get arrested? “To hell with that…” he mumbled, and gunned it once more. A small chime indicated that he had hit one hundred sixty miles per hour, and that he should consider slowing down.

However, that choice was not his to make. As he glanced behind him, his luck feeling a bit too lucky, his heart dropped, and a lump formed in his throat. Behind him, by quite a ways, flashed a red and blue strobe light, clearly intended for him. He hadn’t passed anyone on the road, and had not seen a cop in miles. “Can I make it…?” he questioned out loud, looking at his gas gauge. It sat less than a third above empty.

“No chance in hell… Fuck.” He quickly put the car in neutral, and coasted to the side of the road. Slamming his palm on the steering wheel, he laughed a bit at the comical amount of time it seemed for the cop car to even catch up to, and pull behind him. As the sirens turned off, the spotlight came on, and shot straight in to his mirror. “Fucking assholes, man” he shouted, using the electric knob to direct the blinding light down and away. As he reached over for his insurance and ID, the officer knocked on his window.

“Sir?” said the officer, knocking again. This time harder, causing Seth to fear the man might just break the window.

“Evening, officer”, Seth replied with an even grin, presenting both ID and insurance to the tall, slim uniformed man.

“Good evening, sir. It’s just about pointless to ask, but do you know how fast you were going back there? I clocked you at over one hundred and forty miles per hour, son. That’s mighty fast. “ The officer was a slim man, mustachioed and somewhat burly beneath his tan uniform.

“I know, Officer. I’ve been having a rough time, and I needed to blow off some steam. Vent a little, you know? I didn’t mean to go that fast. Won’t happen again, I promise!” Seth finished the line with a curt nod, being as serious as he could.

“Look, kid… I… I pegged you at what I did, and that doesn’t leave me a lot of room here. I’m sorry, but I’m going to need you to turn off your vehicle, give me the keys, and step out of the vehicle.”
“Yes sir, officer.” Seth replied, smartly. Rolling the window up, he thumbed the ignition button, and killed the car. Pulling the brake, he sighed. “Is this going to be towed, officer?”

“Yes, it is. Now step out of the vehicle.”

“Just checking, sir. I didn’t want to cause an issue by pulling the brake…” he replied, setting the brake back down and climbing out of his car. As he did, he slid the key in to the officers palm, and turned around, placing his hands behind his back.

“Thank you for cooperating. It will help your case in the long run. Now: You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you. You have the right to an attorney, if you cannot afford one, you will be provided with one…” the officer went on reading Seth his rights, for all the good it did.

Seth had tuned the officer out. He was being arrested. His car was being impounded. He had no money, and god dammit his last pack of smokes were in his pocket and he couldn’t reach them. What a fucking night, he thought to himself. As he was seated in the back of the car, he sighed. The officer sat down in the front, and turned through the bars to look at him.

“A truck will be by for your car shortly. It will be held at the impound yard opposite of our station… Lucky you.” The officer finished with a grim smile, and turned his lights off, pulling off of the side of the highway in a slow, steady fashion.

Seth closed his eyes, and nodded off for what he assumed would be mere minutes. Nothing else to do in the back of a police car, now is there?

Seth came back to shortly before they parked at the station. He sighed as he glanced at the glumly-lit parking lot, and the somewhat scuzzy looking building that they had re-purposed for their policing duties. The officer got out of the vehicle, and moved to open the door for Seth. As the officer gently handled Seth out of the vehicle, he nodded his thanks, and shut the back door with his foot. No need to be a dick, he thought. It’ll just make things worse in the long run.

“Come with me, sir.” The officer intoned, motioning for Seth to walk in front of him.

And so he did. Through the breathalyzer, the urine sample, the thumb prints, all the way to sitting in a clear plastic cell with two other guys, one of whom appeared to be high as a kite on god only knows what, and another who was actually bleeding from a head wound.

“Just my kind of place to spend the night. Good job, Seth! Look where you are. Beautiful.”

And with that, he leaned against the wall, closed his eyes, and drifted off for the second time that night.

Love it! It has a lot of good imagery and setting. I've never seen anyone so calm about being arrested, has he been caught before? Anyways, I hope you continue with this, I want to see where it goes. Any plans to throw in Takumi, or more importantly Keisuke? happy.gif

I love the attention to details and vivid depiction of each scenes here. I can totally see each scene played out in my mind as I read it. happy.gif Although I don't know who this Seth is, by the end of the read, I can somewhat empathize his situation. It begs one to question just what kind of background he's from and what kind of story he has behind those closed eyes. A job well done, you've cultivated my curiosity about this Seth character. Now I want to know more.

Well, hell yeah. biggrin.gif That was the goal for this epilogue. I'm glad you like it. My writing style tends to lean towards descriptions, enabling the reader to see what's happening. In the coming chapters, the character will be filled in quite a bit. Along with other characters.

The following morning, Seth woke in a grumpy, confused state. He was still in the holding cell, curled up in a corner closest to the police desk outside. Glancing around, he sighed in disbelief, taking note that he was now the only one in here. As he stood up, the female guard noticed him, and turned to him, “Sir, would you like your phone call now? You’re entitled to a single call.”

He nodded his agreement, and she opened the thick plastic door. Grabbing his arm, the woman lead him down the long tiled corridor to a single bank of telephones, and positioned him at the unit that read “Number Seven”. “Thank you, ma’am…” he said quietly, as she moved to stand just opposite him, watching the hallway. Without waiting further, he immediately dialed his accountant. It rang several times, and then a young man answered on the other end.

“This is Jeb, how may I help you?” came the pleasantly lilting reply.

“Jeb, buddy. It’s Seth, and I’m in a bit of a pinch right now. I need you to wire funds to the county jail.”

“Alright, Seth. Will do. What did you do this time, man…?”

“Don’t even worry about it. But hey, hold on –“ With this, Seth turned to the police woman. “Ma’am, what is my bail and impound set at?” he inquired as innocently as possible.

“Current total amount to be released and retrieve your car is one thousand three hundred and eighty dollars, sir.” She replied curtly, glowering at the thought of letting such a devious criminal as Seth go free.

“You hear that, Jeb? About a grand and a half. Wire it all over, they’ll cash me out for the rest.” Seth continued in to the phone.

“You got it, buddy. Hey, considering this is what, the sixth time this has happened? I’m going to send a friend over to get you. He’s looking for someone to work for him, and I think you might just be the perfect guy.”

“Sounds good, Jeb. Thanks again, hopefully I’ll see you soon.” And with that, Seth hung up, and turned to the police woman. He shrugged a bit, and she just shook her head.

“We will come get you when bail has been posted, sir.”

“Thank you, ma’am.” He intoned politely, and proceeded to follow her back to the holding cell, where he sat down and simply sighed.

It wasn’t more than another five or six minutes before a large male officer came to the door, unlocked it, and threw the single key in to Seth’s lap. “You’re free to go, kid. We’ll send you a letter with your court date. Don’t miss it, or your ass is right back here.”

“Yeah, thanks for the reminder, cop-guy.” Seth chirped as he stepped out of the cell. Following the signs, he turned down three corridors, and walked out in to the fresh, bright sunlight of a new day. Just as the officer had said, across the street sat a dark, squat building with the words “Police Impound” etched in to the awning in plain white lettering.

“That must be it…” he muttered, and glanced across the street before making a short skip to the other side. With a sudden surge of memory, he reached down in to his pocket and fished out his pack of cigarettes. He smiled with genuine delight as he shook one from the pack, placed it to his lips, and lit it with a deep inhale. “There we go… Back to normal, or close to”, he said, leaning against the side of the building. He stood there for quite some time, simply enjoying his temporarily refreshed view on life.

As he finished smoking, he dropped the butt on to the sidewalk, and turned to walk in. Catching the door with his shoulder, he grunted through the round-a-bout and strode to the counter. No one was there. A single bell to be run for service. He smacked it with the palm of his hand once. No reply. Twice. No reply. Third time. A large black woman in a poorly fitting uniform rolled in to view from the other room, the office chair she was in barely containing her girth. An image of Gary Oak came to mind, and he couldn’t help but to try and stifle a snicker.

“Is something funny sir?” she asked, with a tone that indicated the correct answer to her question was a prompt “no”.
Which is precisely what he did. “No ma’am, not at all, I’m sorry… I’m just here to pick up my car. Blue BMW sedan…?

They sent the paper work over from across the street.” Seth finished, trying his best to charm the woman to make this process as smooth as possible.

The woman looked decidedly displeased, and she frowned as she tapped away on her computer. “Mmmm-hm. Well, you’re good to go. I’ll open the gate for you, but if you take more than five minutes, you’ll have to come back in and ask for me to open it again.” As she finished, she smiled what could only have been a smile of pure spite, and waved goodbye to Seth as he stepped out of the door.

“At least the whole fucking department isn’t like that…” he mumbled as he walked out the door, shouldering it once more. He suggested telling the officer that it needed some DW-40, but decided against it. There was a good chance she’d never let him out of the impound yard if he did. After walking for roughly a minute, and smashing the “lock” button on his key fob, he found his car. Parked between an old Volvo 747 and a newer Chevrolet Impala, his car stuck out like a fighter jet in a pack of toy airplanes.

Heeding the lot-masters warning, he slid in to his seat, and started the car. The familiar V8 rumble calmed him, and made him shiver with joy. Without taking his time to enjoy it, he eased the car forward, and out of the lot. Just in time apparently, as the gate slammed shut just behind him as he exited.

As he pulled to the side of the street, turning his flashers on, he checked to make sure everything was where he had left it. ID? Check. Lighter? Check. Spare cigarette? Check. Ex-girlfriends underwear beneath the seat? Oh, definitely… He smiled to the memories of that last one, and reached in to his cup holder, finding his cell phone precisely where he had left it. One missed call, from Jeb. As he attempted to press “call” on the iPhone’s screen, a tall and well-dressed man knocked on his window. When Seth refused to roll it down, the man stepped back and held up both hands in the air.

At this, Seth rolled down the window, and looked to the man. “What can I help you with, bud?” he asked cautiously, not wanting to offend the person who may well be a complete lunatic.

“No need to be alarmed, Seth… Jeb sent me.” The tall man said, tipping the rim of his bowler hat in a sign of welcome.

“I see. And what is your name, sir?” Seth inquired politely, smiling at the man.

“My name is Othello, sir. And I have a job offer that I don’t think you’ll want to refuse.”

“Oh god,” thought Seth. What has Jeb done…?

“Alright, I’ll listen then.” As Seth finished speaking, he stepped out of the car, leaning against the sleek blue shape. He tried to gauge the man, but he couldn’t get a reading on him. His mysterious level was over nine thousand, and as this thought surfaced, he laughed to himself. And for the second time in as many hours, he seemed to have offended someone by laughing.

“Is something… funny, sir?” Othello quipped, glancing down his nose, and over his dark framed glasses at Seth.

“No sir! Not a thing in the world. Now, about that offer you mentioned?” Seth inquired, running a single hand through his long, black hair. Pulling a single cigarette from his pack, he tilted his sunglasses down over his eyes, lit the smoke, and waited.

“Well, as Jeb told you, or didn’t, I’m not sure… I run a blogging site about the cutting edge of modern culture. BDSM clubs, rave scenes, street racing, fight clubs, the like. Essentially, I need a man on the ground. I need a photographer, and I need someone who is willing to go out and get a little… dirty. Our friend Jeb told me you’re the guy for the job, and I’m inclined to believe him, considering where you just came from. “ As Othello finished speaking, he nodded a ways up the road, and grinned. “That…” he said with a drawl, “is my ride. As you can see, it’s not much for the racing or the clubs.”

Seth followed his gesture, and couldn’t help but to agree almost immediately. As he glanced over, he caught site of what could be described as a rust bucket. It was an old Datsun 510, with a rusted-through spot on the roof that had been covered with a plastic bag and duct tape. “You’re telling me that… you drive that every day?” he asked quizzically, looking to Othello once more. “I can understand being strapped for cash, but god damn.”

“Actually,” Othello interjected, “cash isn’t an issue. I just don’t find sinking money in to cars to be worth it like others do. It gets me around, doesn’t suck gas like it’s going out of style, and it’s… kind of charming, in that old-car-smells-like-weed-and-cigarettes kind of way.” He smirked a bit, and shrugged. “So what do you say, Seth? Let’s go grab lunch and discuss your options… And we’ll take your car, if you don’t mind.”

Seth shrugged, and opened his door, gesturing to the other one for Othello.

“Where to, then?” Seth inquired.

“There’s a small sandwich shop down the road. You know the one, big old sign out front, used to be a gas station? We’ll eat there.”

“Sounds good to me.” Seth replied, as he settled down in his seat, and adjusted the mirrors. As Othello climbed in, Seth couldn’t help but feel just a bit lucky at his sudden change of luck.

“So, Seth… if you don’t mind my calling you that… I want to see it first hand. I want to see why Jeb recommended you so quickly, and with such praise. In his words, your canvas is the highway, and your car the brush with which you paint. Is that true?” Othello had a quirk to his words, as if not sure he should believe Jeb or not.

Seth replied as honestly as possible, “That sounds fine and all, but you did say we were going for lunch… And considering my brief incarceration for the last few hours, I wouldn’t mind eating.”

Othello chuckled, and simply nodded. “Fair enough, Seth.” He said simply, and was quiet for a bit before they pulled up to the small café. It was a recently opened tea shop, and they served a light lunch of sandwiches and soft drinks, occasionally offering meat platters as well. It has also become an over-night sensation to the local otaku, due to the fact that the waitresses wore maid outfits, and more often than not, cat ears. A rarity in these parts for sure, but it was a boon to their business.

As Seth and Othello exited the car, they both sighed in unison. The café wasn’t as busy as usual, but the amount of people there was a bit excessive.

“Maybe… somewhere else?” Othello suggested quietly, glancing around at the sheer amount of people, in various forms of nerd-dom.

“Nah, this is fine, buddy,” replied Seth with a grin, “Have you never been here before? The waitresses are all adorable.”

“As you say, then…” returned Othello, and followed Seth in to the café.

As they strode in to the café, they were enthusiastically greeted with a chorus of “Welcome!” and “Enjoy your stay!”. They both nodded in return, and glanced down at the sign which read “Seat your self.” Which they more than happily did. After poking around for a while on the menu, Seth decided on a simple ham sandwich, while Othello ordered a slice of pie and some tea.

“So, Othello,” began Seth, “Tell me more about your operation here. What is it you want me to do? What’s the pay scale I’ll be operating on? I won’t jerk you around, I’m short on money, and hurting for bills. With the court-case coming up, I’m going to need money for that. And for rent in the next couple of days.”

“I see, I see. Well, let’s get right down to it. My blog covers a large audience, and because of that I make hefty revenue off of it. Over two hundred thousand people read my site every day, and it in turn generates roughly four hundred dollars in that one day. So needless to say, I’m more than prepared to pay you a fair amount. Let’s say… 3500 a month? Will that cover your bills and what not?”

Seth balked, and covered his mouth to laugh a little. “Are you serious? That’s… more than enough. I’ll take it, hell, I don’t care what it is I’ll be doing.” He grinned from ear to ear and eagerly listened as Othello went on.

“I won’t bother you too much, essentially. You’ll be paid on the first of the month, and it should cover expenses for food, gas, whatever you need to get the job done. I’ll give you a work cellphone, and send you texts for your assignments. You’ll probably be in the field for a week or two at a time, and then back home for… well, however long it is between my finding an interesting location, and you’re getting there.” As Othello finished, the food arrived, and they were both more than pleased to tuck in to the meal.

As they ate, they made small talk, mostly about the last few days, and how Jeb had met either of them. Seth grunted some reply or another, and casually glanced out the window… What caught his eye as he did so was the dark red R33 GT-R parked across from the cafe. It appeared to be well taken care of, to an extent rarely seen around these parts. Most cars that old around here were usually buckets of rust by now. Sporting a set of Rewind rims, and what appeared to be lowered suspension and an aftermarket hood, Seth couldn’t help but admire the car.

As the waitress came back over, her mini-skirt flashing a more than gratuitous amount of pantsu, Seth had to ask. “Miss? Do you know whose car that is over there? That red Nissan with the rims?” It took the waitress a minute to find the car through the window, but when she saw it she nodded excitedly.

“I do, sir! There’s a new girl here named Lena. She actually just moved to the city not too long ago… She’s from a few towns over. Rumor has it that it was her brothers’ car, but he died in a wreck. She’s not working today, sir. But if you’d like, I can let her know you came by. She may be interested in selling it due to the bad memories associated with it…”

“That would be wonderful,” Seth replied, reaching for a pen in his pocket, “Here… give her this. It’s my name and number. Let her know I’d like to talk to her about it, even if she isn’t selling. I’ve recently become a bit of a writer and photographer, and I’d love to set up a photo-shoot. Not too many of those cars In these parts.” As Seth finished, he handed the note to the waitress, along with a small amount of cash to pay the tab.

“Well, buddy? You ready to show me why Jeb calls you an artist of the street?” inquired Othello, standing up and sliding his slim suit jacket over his shirt.

“You got it, boss man.” As Seth finished speaking, he also stood, and together they walked from the restaurant.

Might be me, but I'm a bit confused at the moment. Othello said to go to this café, and now he doesn't want to go? But then Seth wants to go? One more thing! Where is this taking place exactly? I imagined it somewhere in the states obviously but the exact region, I never figured out. Or is it even important?

Other than that the pace of the story is good and there aren't any glaring errors that I see. Plot wise I love it! This new Othello character seems very interesting; his mysterious level is over nine thousand, so he can't be a bad guy right? I have a feeling that something big is going to happen very soon. I'm sitting on the edge of my seat for this! More chapters sir! laugh2.gif

First of all, is the cafe based on a real life location? If so, where is it at? smile.gif

Concurred with THE_HONDA_CG2, the story is becoming more interesting with the introduction of Othello. For some strange reasons, his mystique reminds me of Yasu from Nana. Also, the upcoming storyline of this Lena character sounds very similar to a plot in Wangan Midnight. ohmy.gif

Not going to lie, it's a very Wangan Midnight-esque storyline. But... Well, you'll see. smile.gif More updates coming today.

It's been a while since this forum has had even one racing story that doesn't take extremely long between updates. Now there are two of them, and they're both very promising. Keep it up smile.gif

Aww! Meteor, are you talking about me and my story? I'm super flattered! grin2.gif

Anyways, we are still looking forward to updates sir! I want to find out more about this Lena character and Othello's deal! Also, do you mind providing some character bios? Or will the upcoming chapters tell all? pinch2.gif

Character bios incoming. I've taken time to rediscover the meaning of 'free time' between work and school. I'll also be making some modifications to a few of the vehicles and characters as well.

Lena had been working almost triple shifts for the last several months, trying to afford tires for her baby. In retrospect, she pondered that it was actually her brothers car... She let out a small sigh, and reminded herself that it was her work now to carry on his legacy. He had been one of the most respected racers in the valley before he was killed, and now she had to continue with his work.

As she stood near the window of the cafe, it was almost relaxing to look out on to the glistening dark red paint of her R33 GT-R. The way the sunlight caught each spoke of the rims, making it appear poised, ready to pounce. And then she was shaken back to reality with a jarring slap to the back.

"We get it, Lena. You have a really nice car. Now get back to work! There's... well, there's one customer! Go check on him, and then get back to the dishes!" Her manager was a bit rough around the edges, but she was generally a nice person. Leanne didn't care much for the culture of the cafe she managed, but thus was the life of being part of a chain.

She pulled on the skirt of her maid outfit, and sighed once more, before walking over the single customer in the entire cafe. As a rule, Tuesdays were generally dull, and this specific Tuesday was adhering perfectly. "Hello, sir!" she piped up happily, "Is there anything else I can get you today?"

"No, thank you, miss." the man replied in monotone, before taking another drink from his coffee, and shoveling a fork full of bacon and eggs in to his mouth.

Lena smiles and nodded, before retreating to the back. Pushing past the double swinging rubber doors, one of the other servers called for her, "Lena! I'm really sorry, and I totally forgot about this... But this really handsome kid named..." as she searched for a name, she fished the business card out of her skirt pocket, and her face lit up when she found what she was looking for. "Seth! Cute kid named Seth came in here and asked about your car two days ago. He wrote his number and everything!" She giggled as she handed Lena the card, continuing on to flit out the doors and back up to the front of the cafe.

A bit puzzled, Lena turned the card over in her hand, and read his name and number. "Maybe... Did he know my brother?" She shook her head, and stuffed the card in her pocket, making a mental note to call him after her shift.

The day wore on slowly with few more customers, and eventually closing time rolled around at about six thirty. Lena grabbed her bag of clothes from her car, changed in to a pair of black jeans, a large grey hoodie, and said her goodbyes to her co-workers. As she walked out the front door, she thumbed the power stud on her phone and opened the door of her beautiful red Skyline. Sliding in to the drivers seat, she slid her key in to the ignition, and smiled a predatory grin as the engine rumbled in to life.

"Oh!" She almost smacked herself in the forehead for forgetting, but quickly fished the now-crumpled business card out of her work uniform pocket. Grabbing her phone, she keyed in the number, and sent him a simple text: This is Lena... You were asking about my car at the anime cafe a few days ago. Did you know my brother?

Slipping the phone back in to the cup holder, she put it out of her mind, and slid the gear knob in to first, easing out of her parking spot, and taking off down the small curve leading to a longer mountain pass that would take her home. Slamming home second, third and fourth, she left it there as she took the first right hand sweep on to the mountain pass. She smiled once more as a pair of headlights appeared in her rearview mirror, closing quickly to her rear bumper...

================================================

It had been six months since Seth and Othello had walked from that small, exuberantly Japanese cafe. In the time between, Seth had seen locations he had only heard about previously; Tokyo, Bangkok, Shanghai, Seoul, all over central and southern Asia. He had seen all sorts of racing, as well: The drift battles so popular to rural Japanese mountain passes. Drag racing in China between rich old men in exotics. Bleeding-edge technology crammed inside the latest Korean hot hatch, and the beautiful, unique emerging Korean car culture.

Despite what many of the state-side car mags said, and even blogs, car culture was alive and well in the East, just as it was livening up in the States as winter lost it's grip to beautiful, warm summers and perfect blue waters. As he sat now, he could almost see the small island from the deck of Othello's yacht, which he had so casually loaned to Seth for this latest adventure.

Roughly a week ago, Seth had been contacted by a gentleman claiming to have built a private race track on one of the larger islands off of the coast of California. Seth had been impressed, being previously unaware that their were either islands out there, or that you could buy them. He stepped down from the top deck, and slipped down beneath in to the shade of the small, leather-and-wood trimmed cabin housed under the deck. Slipping down in to one of the plush leather couches, he flipped the lid of his new Macbook Pro open, and clicked open his e-mail. "Junk, junk, junk... Ah, what's this..?" he inquired to himself as he opened an e-mail almost entirely in Japanese. The sender wasn't someone he recognized, and it wasn't spam. At the bottom, a small blue hyperlink flashed. It read "PROJECT-D".
Pulling up Google Translate, he discovered it was the official site of some sort of illegal drifting team in the hills of Gunma Province... which according to Google Maps was effectively buttfuck-nowhere Japan.

"Interesting... Maybe I'll check it out later.." he mumbled, as he laid back on the couch, drifting off to sleep.

He woke with a start, the water having cooled considerably as the yachts' internal heater wound down. He could no longer hear the fimiliar thrum of engines, nor feel them beneath his feet. "Port already...?" he wondered aloud, as he threw a towel around his waist and stepped out, jogging up the stairs and on to the deck.

The site that greeted him was one of your typical tropical paradise. He was a bit shocked, as he hadn't been able to see any of the overgrowth from his last vantage, but the shock was pleasant. A warm, salty breeze that had been with him the entire voyage now gusted anew, rustling the vibrant green leaves of the palms above, and stirring the powder-like sand in tiny whisks.

Oh boy! Updates! Does that mean that you're writing again? Because things are starting to look really good even with this huge time skip! Everything still makes sense! thumbsup.gif

Glad to see this story will be continuing. The time skip is certainly sudden, but it's not jarring and it still keeps things interesting. This is still a pretty nice story and I'm really looking forward to updates.
