Hi all,
thought I'd post my build up

Last year, I wanted to swap the engine of my other car, but needed a car to drive around meanwhile. I was incredibly close to buying an EK hatch as my daily when the seller flaked (lucky for me, in retrospect). I decided I wanted a car that I would have fun in, and have always been a fan of the AE86 (with Initial D and whatnot). I searched everywhere, and eventually came into possession of a 1985 Toyota Corolla SR5. I bought it to be a daily driver while my other car was getting its engine swap. The car is a lot of fun! ... slow, but it is a driver's car through and through. Made you want to milk every bit of speed you could out of it when driving around, just to keep up with modern day cars.

Unfortunately for me, I blew the 4AC before I could even get the other car to the shop, so I decided to swap this one first. I've sat in a blacktop AE111 AE86 and decided that I had to have more power, so I went silly and bought this:

F20C from a 2002 S2K. It would give me the same characteristics as a 4AG (high rev, torquey), but would give me more power than any 4AG could ever put out. Not to mention it's cleaner and more gas efficient!

And so the build began. All work was done by a shop in Santa Ana called Suspicious Garage. I highly recommend them.

These are custom fabricated mounts by JSP specifically for the motor and tranny from an S2k.

Got a rear axle from a Mk2 Supra to handle the new power.

I then decided to get other goodies. Carbon fiber hood, among other JDM goodies.

I needed an S2k gauge cluster.

Some custom wiring work.

Gauge cluster installed. (you can see my 986 in the foreground)

And here is how she sits now.

As a fan of Initial D, much to the chagrin of other AE86 owners, the paint scheme will eventually be panda. However, mine will be a little different. It will feature a bit more aero than the Initial D vehicle. Most of the car will also be carbon fiber when I'm done, and will be a mix of white and carbon fiber instead of white and black. I also used a Kouki front bumper instead of a Zenki, but I'll be using a Zenki paint scheme.

The car will be at JCCS this year on September 27th. It is an ongoing project I hope to finish by this time next year. I'll post updates as they come.

Hello there! Welcome to IDW. I must admit large amount of envy towards f20 powered rollas. Id love to do one on mine one day, but my 20v will have to do for now.

As a new car minded member of IDW sharing your car with us, Id be honored to introduce you to our long running tradition- Obligatory bread and milk pics! As proof that your car is really yours, we request that you take a picture of your vehicle with, what are for most very readily available items, bread and milk.

We hope to see more of you around here

You actually have kids on here claiming ownership of other people's vehicle? What's the ploy?

Tramp stamps get me moist.

Not really, I just felt like saying that.

But yeah, we've had kids on here trying to claim they own Evos, AE86s, RX-7s, and all that stuff, just because they want to be internet cool or whatever. The best ones are the ones who try to claim they own another member's car without knowing it. laugh2.gif

Damn I always forget about doing this. =, (

I promise to make a bread and milk picture of my FC sometime when I get the guts to make my own thread. =p

The 86 fan boys can hate all they want but honestly the F20C is the path I would go if I had one of these. S2k on 86 chassis ftw.

An engine swap is the best way to make any given car fast.

For example, a V8 RX-7, a 3S AW11, an 18B Civic, or a 2ZZ MR-S.

Plus you get a much better transmission in this case.

Gotta lot split case designs. Even the gts t51 design is less than lack luster.

Much needs to be done before paint.

I'm having a lot of trouble linking my images. Says file extensions are not valid.

He was one of the few shops who actually had experience with such a swap. Services in Arizona is scarce.

So I hosted a tech day BBQ for the local 86 guys Saturday. It was a great turnout. Got my coilovers in.

I personally have not seen this many 86s, even at 86 meets.

And then today, this happened:

Im sure your neighbors were rather confused. What coilovers/spring rates did you wind up going with if I may inquire?

Colors look like Stance to me, but I could be wrong...

According to the guys I knew who used to race 86s, using very high spring rates (16kg+) and no bars is the way the go, but then again that assumes you have a stripped and seam welded chassis...lol

On another note, why don't you have a stripped and seamwelded chassis? hehehe
